What is the difference between requesting 25% Extra Time and Other Adjustments?

Modified on Fri, 06 Oct 2023 at 11:26 AM

If you are requesting access arrangements for a child with SEND, there are two options: request 25% extra time and request other adjustments.

You can select:

Request 25% extra time only

Request other access arrangements

Or request 25% extra time AND other access arrangements

Make sure you select the correct tick boxes.

Request 25% extra time

Some pupils with SEND are entitled to 25% extra time when they complete their tests. If the senior school agrees with the documentation you have provided, the 25% extra time will be automatically calculated and added when your child takes the tests.

Other adjustments

Some pupils with SEND are entitled to other access arrangements. This might be as well as 25% extra time, or instead of.  Other access arrangements can vary on the need of the individual pupil and will be documented in the Educational Psychologist's report (or other professional assessors). Examples of other access arrangements could be (but are not limited to):

  • A reader for the tests
  • Supervised rest breaks
  • A separate room

If you are not sure what access arrangements you should request, ISEB recommends speaking with the SENCO at your current school.

Once you have selected the correct box or boxes, you will then be able to write an explanation for your request. This will be visible to the senior school and the invigilation centre. Your SEND documentation will only be visible to the senior school.

Please note that completing this section does not guarantee that your child will receive these access arrangements. Each senior school you apply to will review your request. If they are not satisfied with the evidence you have provided they will contact you and/or your current school for further information.
