There is no option for extra time to be added for pupils with EAL (English as an Additional Language).
The Common Pre-Tests are accessible to applicants, including those with EAL. Reasonable adjustments may be applied, the nature of which will depend on the candidate's specific needs. For applicants with EAL, this may include using a standard bilingual paper dictionary.
Check with the applicant's current school and the schools they are applying to whether additional support, such as a bilingual dictionary, would be allowed during the test.
Most applicants must attend an interview as part of their application process. As a result, the tests have been designed to ensure that any child proficient enough to answer questions in an interview can access the test.
In individual cases, schools may decide that not all test elements are a suitable form of assessment for a candidate whose first language is not English.
